Europe

Europe is a continent shaped by centuries of history, diverse cultures, and remarkably varied landscapes. From the rugged coastlines of the Atlantic to the towering peaks of the Alps, the vineyard-covered valleys of the Rhine and Mosel, and the quiet countryside villages tucked between rolling hills, every region feels completely distinct from the next. Ancient castles overlook river valleys, medieval towns blend into modern cities, and scenic train routes connect some of the world’s most iconic destinations.
What we love most about Europe is how naturally adventure and slow travel come together. One day might be spent hiking through alpine trails, cycling between vineyards, or wandering coastal paths, while the next is filled with café mornings, local markets, historic streets, and long dinners in tiny village squares. Some of the most memorable experiences happen in smaller towns, lesser-known regions, and the landscapes in between.

Planning your trip
Europe changes dramatically with the seasons, and the best time to visit depends largely on the kind of trip you’re planning. Spring brings blooming landscapes, quieter cities, and ideal temperatures for hiking and cycling, while summer offers long daylight hours and lively outdoor culture across the continent. Fall is one of the best times to explore wine regions and smaller towns as crowds thin and temperatures cool. Winter transforms many destinations with Christmas markets, snowy mountain villages, and cozy cafés, though shorter days and colder weather can limit outdoor activities in some regions.
Packing for Europe is all about versatility. Weather can change quickly between regions, seasons, and even throughout the day, so lightweight layers and a compact rain jacket are always good to have. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for cobblestone streets, train stations, and long sightseeing days, while a smaller suitcase or carry-on makes moving between destinations much easier.
Europe’s extensive rail network makes train travel one of the easiest and most scenic ways to move between major cities and regions. High-speed trains connect capitals efficiently, while regional trains make it easy to reach smaller towns without needing a car. That said, renting a car offers much more flexibility in rural areas, mountain regions, wine country, and road trip destinations where public transportation is limited. We’ve found that combining both often works best: trains for cities, cars for countryside adventures.
Travel costs in Europe vary widely depending on the region and season. Western Europe and Scandinavia tend to be significantly more expensive, particularly for accommodation and dining, while Eastern Europe and parts of the Balkans are often far more budget-friendly. Major tourist cities can add up quickly, but slower travel, smaller towns, local bakeries, and public transportation can make Europe surprisingly manageable even on a moderate budget.
Europe is one of the best continents in the world for active travel. Long-distance cycling routes connect rivers, vineyards, and historic towns, while hiking trails range from coastal walks to alpine mountain routes. Many regions are exceptionally well set up for outdoor travel, with marked trails, mountain huts, bike-friendly infrastructure, and public transit connections that make multi-day adventures much easier to plan.
