Who are we?

Hi, I’m Erin—a registered nurse, part-time wanderer, and full-time lover of the outdoors. My husband Mark—a mechanical engineer—is my adventure partner whenever we’re not working our Monday-to-Friday jobs. Together, we’re living proof that you don’t have to quit your job to explore the world. You can still find adventure while keeping a home base.

We love to travel, hike, and bike (he’s obsessed—I’m coming around). Sometimes that means a local trail after work—living in the beautiful Lower Mainland of British Columbia makes that easy. Other times, it’s a weekend bikepacking trip or a longer international journey. This blog is where we share the stories, lessons, and logistics behind making travel fit into full-time life. You’ll also find solo travel stories here, because I truly believe travelling alone builds confidence and perspective.

A Little More About Us & What you’ll find on Passports, Paths, & Pedals…

You’ll see glimpses of our personal loves throughout these pages: cats we meet along the way (yes, I stop for every one), flowers peeking through city sidewalks or mountain trails, and cozy stops for coffee, cookies, craft beer, or wine. If it resembles a castle, I’m already sold. Mark has a running photo series of me taking pictures of things—which pretty much sums up our dynamic.

While Mark gravitates toward the quieter, off-the-beaten-path places, I’m drawn to a little bit of everything: the history of old cities, the rhythm of daily life in new places, and big, wide landscapes where nature steals the show. We both love it when nature starts to reclaim the built world—vines crawling up stone walls or flowers growing between cobblestones always stop me in my tracks.

We’re not slow-living people—it feels more like intentional living. We prefer early mornings, physical activity, and quality time together over large social gatherings. You won’t find us posting daily on social media, but you will find us quietly soaking up the moments that matter.

I’m also on a mission to become a more adventurous eater, one local dish at a time—pushing past my historically picky palate.

A while back, I had a different travel blog. But in a season of upheaval, I let it go. While I can’t bring that space back, I can carry those stories forward and continue sharing them here, woven into the new chapters.

Thanks for being here. Whether you’re looking for practical travel tips, inspiration for your hikes and rides, or simply enjoy everyday beauty (with the occasional cat photo), I hope this space encourages you to find your own version of adventure—on trails, roads, or wherever the path leads.

Let’s keep exploring.
